The Challenge

MediConnect, a network of 8 clinics based in Rabat with over 120 specialist doctors, faced chronic saturation in in-person consultations. Patients often waited 5 to 12 days for appointments, especially in high-demand specialties such as cardiology, dermatology, and pediatrics. The network wanted to expand geographic coverage to Tangier, Fez, and Marrakech without investing in costly new physical infrastructure. Furthermore, the absence of centralized medical records caused critical information loss between clinics: a patient followed in cardiology at the Rabat clinic had to redo all exams if consulting another specialist at a different network clinic. The phone-based appointment system required 6 full-time receptionists and generated a 25% missed appointment rate due to lack of automated reminders. The health crisis also revealed an urgent need for remote consultations, with at-risk patients unable to travel. Finally, the network had to comply with strict CNDP (National Data Protection Commission) standards for health data, ruling out consumer solutions like Zoom or WhatsApp for consultations.

Our Solution

We built a comprehensive telemedicine platform comprising a React Native mobile app for patients, a React web application for doctors, and a robust Node.js backend with microservices architecture. The WebRTC video conferencing system, deployed on dedicated TURN/STUN servers, enables secure HD video consultations with screen sharing, high-resolution medical image sharing, and optional session recording for patient records. Centralized electronic medical records on MongoDB, with AES-256 encryption at rest and in transit, give doctors instant access to complete patient history including lab results, medical imaging, and prescription history. An intelligent appointment engine based on optimization algorithms automatically distributes time slots by specialty, urgency, and availability, with automatic SMS and push notification reminders 24 hours and 1 hour before consultation. The integrated e-prescription system, compliant with Moroccan standards, sends prescriptions directly to partner pharmacies via a secure API, with automatic drug interaction checking. An AI-powered triage chatbot module guides patients to the appropriate specialty before booking. Everything is hosted on Azure with end-to-end encryption and infrastructure compliant with CNDP standards and international healthcare data best practices.
